Thanks for the analysis. I catered for an equal number of vegetarians and omnivores, counting on the vegetarians, though few in number, to eat more, as they had fewer protein choices and therefore in theory would require more food to reach satiation. In the end, though, only one vegetarian came to the party. Tofu for all!

V = No. of vegetarians
O = No. of omnivores
Ao = Appetite for non-vegetarian food
Av = Appetite for vegetarian food
Therefore, to find Ag (Gross appetite of guests):
Ag = V*Av + O*(Ao+Av)
F = Food provided
Sp = Successfulness of Party (Sp)
"Sp" is determined by the percentage of food eaten. The more food eaten the better, but if the food runs out (i.e. Ag is larger than F) then the part will be a failure.
Sp = (F-Ag)*100
Conclusions:
Vegetarians should not be invited to parties, as they will generally not be able to eat as many of the dishes as others, thus leaving more leftovers, and thus making the party less successful. However, this is conditional on the quantities of dishes provided, appetite variables, and many other possible influences.
